"Well..." Harok sighed as he and Natasha exchanged sad glances before they turned to Rodney. "We've been having trouble conceiving a child. We had a daughter that died when she was only two months old and then a couple of months later Natasha was pregnant again. But that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage and then we tried again. It also became life-threatening and she had to have an abortion. Then one after another we suffered more miscarriages. Finally the doctor told us that we couldn't have any more children and we should just give up."

"And we were desperate for another child. Plus we were in deep financial trouble with Hollisay so young and we struggled to make a living with my job building furniture for our neighbors and producing timber to light up our home. Plus Natasha's family was so embarrassed by my marriage to her that they declined to provide any more funding for us. So we were dead broke. No adoption agency would accept us because of our background and our family status and we were not allowed to adopt or foster any children. So we had no choice but to turn to the only place that would accept our pleas for a child: the black market."

Lebani then gasped and shivered in awe with his mouth open; he had not expected this type of tale to be revealed.

"We are not finished explaining yet," Harok sighed as he placed his hand to silence Natasha when he sensed she was about to speak. He then cleared his throat and continued. "The day we went to a particular adoption agency, which had international connections reaching from the U.S. all the way to Asia, we were confronted by a couple of men in black holding a three year old child. She was cradled in a black bundle and the moment we first glanced at her, we immediately fell in love with her. We wanted to take her home with us and raise her as our own, so we arranged to sign in some paperwork and right then and there, she became a member of our family."

"It wasn't until many years later that we found out that she was kidnapped from her own home as part of some sort of covert operation engineered by the American government to decimate the Atlantean population further by spreading them across the continents. By separating them from their homes and integrating them into American families, they would become assimilated into our culture and then in a matter of generations, their bloodline would progress to the point where they would not longer be recognized as Atlanteans."

"And there is something else too; since I could no longer bear children and the miscarriages just kept on happening, Harok and I also adopted Miska from another adoption agency," Natasha replied.

"And that's the main reason why I cheated on Natasha; because she just couldn't fulfill her part in the marriage and we couldn't have any more children to keep Hollisay company. It was not enough for us to have adopted children in the home," Harok added with a deep and dejected sigh as Lebani looked on with horror in his eyes.

"So that is what we've kept secret for all these years. We just didn't want Lee to know the truth because it would just destroy her," Harok explained.

"And our beautiful little girl that we lost was named Aida," Natasha mumbled as she burst into sobs.

"Because of our selfish actions, our daughter is fucked for life!" Natasha wailed as Harok held her in her arms and patted her back to comfort her. "There, there, Nati; everything will be all right," he murmured gently.

"We have to tell Aunties Lee and Miska about this. They might wanna know," Lebani urged Rodney.

"No; it is best if we approach Lee and Miska in spirit; it's better that way and also neither of them would have to resort to killing us if they knew the truth of their adoptions," Harok insisted while shaking his head.

"Come on, Uncle Rodney! The gang's waiting for us!" Lebani pouted as he tugged on Rodney's pants impatiently with growls.

"Awww, he's so cute!" Tatiana gushed as Olga smiled at him warmly. "Why, yes he is. I could just pet him," she cooed tenderly.

"Should we go with you now?" Harok asked Rodney.

Harok and Natasha then nodded at the others as they waved goodbye and followed Rodney and Lebani out of the Underworld.

"I'm not so sure she'll be so willing to forgive us, especially after she finds out the circumstances underneath which she was adopted," Harok replied grimly as Natasha scoffed. "Miska would be even more so displeased with us once she finds out that she is also not our real daughter."

"That's not exactly true, Rodney," Harok shook his head vehemently. "We turned our backs on her when she started her affair with Bertha and Natasha was the one who beat her severely. Even though I was the one who paid any attention to Lee, Natasha treated her with utter contempt and scorn. She punished her out of all our children, even Hollisay. Since Lee was so mischievous when she was young, we charged Hollisay with looking after her, and God help him if anything were to happen to her. Natasha and Lee also had a very difficult relationship over the years and as time progressed, it just deteriorated."

"And how would you know that her real parents wouldn't have done any better? She was taken from her own home, you know? She never got to grow up with her real family!" Natasha snorted contemptuously with a sneer.

"Yeah," Lebani nodded sadly as he dashed off. "I'm gonna play with Karina."

"Well, let's go, Natasha," Harok sighed as the couple held hands and they drifted into the hallway to speak with their estranged adopted daughter.
